AI-Generated Podcast Made About FX’s “The English Teacher”

The project is made by anonymous fans and points to a growing trend of podcasts produced by AI technology.

Two anonymous superfans of the FX show “The English Teacher” have made a podcast called “People Overheard Talking About FX’s The English Teacher” that is completely AI-generated. The show features conversations that sound like typical podcast banter, but the twist is that neither the hosts nor the content are real. It’s all powered by artificial intelligence.

The premise of the podcast is simple. In each episode, the AI hosts “overhear” people talking about “English Teacher”, a show they praise as the best comedy since “Seinfeld”. The conversations take place in quirky locations, such as Pressed Juicery or a Harvard Linguistics Lab. One episode even humorously claims that Epic Games has incorporated dance moves from “English Teacher” into “Fortnite” — a completely fabricated detail.

Despite its bizarre charm, the podcast’s title is slightly off. The show it discusses is officially called “English Teacher”, not “The English Teacher”, but this seems to be just one of the quirks in an AI-generated production. The podcast itself is filled with these playful errors, citing fake news reports and fictional scenarios where people are talking about how great the FX series is.

Since its launch on September 2, the podcast has dropped nearly 40 episodes, all under ten minutes long. Episodes are released at an unusual pace, with some arriving just hours apart, making it feel like a rapid-fire tribute to the FX show. The dialogue between the two AI co-hosts, while light and conversational, often slips into promotional mode, heaping praise on Brian Jordan Alvarez, the creator and star of “English Teacher”.

The strange and almost satirical nature of “People Overheard Talking About FX’s The English Teacher” raises questions. Is it a covert marketing ploy by FX? Is Brian Jordan Alvarez himself involved? But according to the creators, the podcast is neither sponsored nor affiliated with the show or network. The fact that the podcast features AI-generated voices and fabricated stories only adds to its surreal vibe.

Interestingly, this AI podcast isn’t an isolated case. It’s part of a larger trend of AI-generated content that’s beginning to emerge. Google’s experimental tool, NotebookLM, for example, allows users to upload documents and receive AI-generated podcasts in return. With AI technology increasingly capable of mimicking human conversation, there’s speculation about how far this trend will go.

“People Overheard Talking About FX’s The English Teacher “ has yet to build a large following, with just two reviews on Apple Podcasts; however, it’s a curious example of how AI is reshaping content creation. It leaves the entertainment world wondering whether AI-driven podcasts are a passing novelty or the start of a new way to engage fans with their favorite shows.
