Staircase Studios AI, a startup launched in March 2025 by "Divergent" producer Pouya Shahbazian and venture capitalist Kenneth Lerer, is making waves in Hollywood by integrating artificial intelligence with traditional filmmaking. The studio's approach involves human artists at every stage of production, utilizing AI tools to enhance set designs and visuals, thereby producing high-quality films at reduced costs.

Their debut feature, "The Woman with Red Hair," tells the story of WWII resistance fighter Hannie Schaft, combining human actors with AI-generated elements to create a compelling narrative. By leveraging AI, Staircase Studios aims to democratize filmmaking, enabling the production of stories that might otherwise remain untold due to budget constraints.

The studio plans to produce seven to eight projects annually, emphasizing ethical AI use in collaboration with union members and seasoned industry professionals. This initiative reflects a potential path for AI's positive impact in fostering diverse storytelling within cinema, addressing Hollywood's growing concerns over AI's role in the creative process.
