Edge Video Launches AI-Driven eCommerce Engine
Netherlands-based Edge Video introduces an AI-powered eCommerce technology, transforming video streams into interactive shopping experiences.
Edge Video, a Netherlands-based media technology platform, has recently unveiled a new eCommerce engine that promises to transform the way viewers engage with video content. Announced on April 25, 2024, this AI-driven feature allows for a seamless integration of shopping opportunities directly within video streams, enhancing the viewing experience with a new level of interactivity and engagement.
The technology, developed by Edge Video's in-house team, scans the content of broadcasts in real time. It then offers personalized shopping recommendations based on what viewers are watching, whether it’s a popular TV show or a live stream. This new feature is designed to make video streaming a more interactive experience by using a simple QR overlay that viewers can scan to explore products.
According to Joe Ward, CEO and founder of Edge, the eCommerce engine is not just about enhancing viewer engagement but also about increasing revenue for content creators. "It’s about delivering more," Ward said, “more for creators, more for viewers.” The system supports transactions with traditional currencies like the EUR and USD, as well as Edge’s proprietary Virtual Points and the soon-to-be-launched $FAST token. Importantly, creators receive a share of the revenue generated through these transactions.
The Edge Video AI also enriches the content with additional entertainment elements like games and quizzes, delivered directly through the stream. This feature is connected to a vast network of global eCommerce partners, including major brands such as AliExpress, Acer, Amazon, and Lidl, among others. This network is set to grow, broadening the variety of products available to viewers.
This initiative comes at a time when there is no shortage of options for content consumption, but Edge aims to stand out by offering viewers and creators something unique. By integrating games and quizzes that allow viewers to earn token rewards, Edge reshapes the content consumption experience while potentially fostering more loyal audiences and boosts revenue per user—a metric historically low in free ad-supported streaming (FAST) channels.
